Welcome to The America Needs Common Sense Wiki.
AmericaNeedsCommonSense.org (ANCS) is a citizen-led initiative aiming to foster consensus among Americans on critical civic issues. The goal is to identify areas where the majority of citizens agree and convey well-researched, solution-oriented proposals to elected officials. ANCS believes the public shares more common ground than the media and politicians acknowledge. By using a structured process, ANCS aspires to empower citizens and enhance civic participation through technology and respectful discourse.
2. Activities and Operations
The organization operates as an online platform structured to guide participants through a six-step process:
- State a Grievance: Participants identify a problem affecting themselves or others.
- Gather Factual Evidence: All perspectives and facts are collected and verified to ensure accuracy.
- Publish the Issue: A comprehensive issue page is created with balanced, factual information.
- Collaborative Solutions: Participants propose, refine, and merge solutions, using voting tools to achieve consensus.
- Educate Authorities: ANCS presents the findings to elected officials to promote well-reasoned reforms.
- Publicize Impact: The results of ANCS’s efforts are shared publicly to highlight achieved reforms.
Technology Use: ANCS leverages wiki-based tools for collaborative issue development, voting, and polling to streamline participation and consensus-building.
3. Current and Future Focus
Currently, ANCS is in its early stages, focusing on:
- Established 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status to attract donors and grants. (Granted 05/28/2025)
- Expanding the website by adding content and tools to facilitate engagement.
- Promoting ANCS through social media, press releases, and outreach to recruit active members, particularly skilled researchers (e.g., Wikipedians).
4. Public Participation and Membership
ANCS is open to any U.S. citizen willing to participate constructively, adhering to standards like the "Five Pillars" outlined on the website.
5. Financial and Resource Management
- Funding Sources: General public donations, grants, sponsorships, and website donations via PayPal.
- Expenses: Funds are used exclusively for operational and program-related purposes (e.g., web hosting, outreach, and training).
- Growth Plan: ANCS commits to lean growth without physical infrastructure, focusing on home-based operations and utilizing technology efficiently.
6. Long-Term Impact
ANCS aims to educate the public on civic issues, promote fact-based solutions, and reduce the influence of special interests. By advancing civic education and fostering direct democracy tools, ANCS seeks to create accurate representation and better governance for the greater good.
