= Welcome to The America Needs Common Sense Wiki. =
<div id="mp-free">'''1. Mission'''
To empower citizens and enhance civic participation through technology, respectful deliberation and discourse.

'''2. Purpose'''

AmericaNeedsCommonSense.org (ANCS) is a citizen-led initiative aiming to foster consensus among Americans on critical civic issues. The goal is to identify areas where the majority of citizens agree and convey well-researched, solution-oriented proposals to elected officials. ANCS believes the public shares more common ground than the media and politicians acknowledge. By using a structured process, ANCS aspires to empower citizens and enhance civic participation through technology and respectful discourse.

'''3. Activities and Operations'''

The organization operates as an online platform structured to guide participants through a '''six-step process''':

# '''State a Grievance:''' Participants identify a problem affecting themselves or others.
# '''Gather Factual Evidence:''' All perspectives and facts are collected and verified to ensure accuracy.
# '''Publish the Issue:''' A comprehensive issue page is created with balanced, factual information.
# '''Collaborative Solutions:''' Participants propose, refine, and merge solutions, using voting tools to achieve consensus.
# '''Educate Authorities:''' ANCS presents the findings to elected officials to promote well-reasoned reforms.
# '''Publicize Impact:''' The results of ANCS’s efforts are shared publicly to highlight achieved reforms.

'''4. Current and Future Focus'''

Currently, ANCS is in its early stages, focusing on:

* Established '''501(c)(3) tax-exempt status''' to attract donors and grants. (Granted 05/28/2025)
* Expanding the website by adding content and tools to facilitate engagement.
* Promoting ANCS through social media, press releases, and outreach to recruit active members, particularly skilled researchers (e.g., Wikipedians).

'''5. Public Participation and Membership'''

ANCS is open to any U.S. citizen willing to participate constructively, adhering to standards like the "Five Pillars" outlined on the website.

'''6. Financial and Resource Management'''

* '''Funding Sources:''' General public donations, grants, sponsorships, and website donations via PayPal.
* '''Expenses:''' Funds are used exclusively for operational and program-related purposes (e.g., web hosting, outreach, and training).
* '''Growth Plan:''' ANCS commits to lean growth without physical infrastructure, focusing on home-based operations and utilizing technology efficiently.

'''7. Long-Term Impact'''

ANCS aims to educate the public on civic issues, promote fact-based solutions, and reduce the influence of special interests. By advancing civic education and fostering direct democracy tools, ANCS seeks to create accurate representation and better governance for the greater good.

Rick(Founder): numerous grammatical corrections

AmericaNeedsCommonSense is a nonprofit organization dedicated to re-inventing constitutional governance in America by using a computer program for citizens to directly interact with other citizens who want to represent themselves and constructively find solutions to issues we can all agree on.

We do this by using a program invented by Ward Cunningham. He called it a WIKI which became the operating system of Wikipedia, a subsidiary of Wikimedia Commons. It is the first program that allows for collaborative discourse, polling, and voting. We are using this Wiki to become the central database for all Americans to come together to solve problems and work together.

AmericaNeedsCommonSense.org (ANCS) will become a network for promoting self-representation. We must have power in balance to achieve fairness. Diversity is essential. We need thinkers, organizers, legislators, problem solvers.

We need to start voting on issues. We need to vote on issues because voting for candidates is just not working as intended.

=== America Needs Common Sense (ANCS) is dedicated to all Americans who want to: ===
Help America to become happier, safer, and more prosperous.

Personally influence policy to make things better.

Investigate issues to get accurate facts.

Help people who have been subjected to abuse of power, reach out to get help.

Help make America more fair.

Share civic solutions and knowledge of civic matters with others. Vote on issues that matter.

Interact with government and business.

Observe and balance those forces that affect us.

=== We have several fundamental problems that must be overcome in our modern society. ===
1. imbalance of power.

2. The way we (Collectively) process information.

3. The way we prioritize efforts.

4. How we learn from our mistakes.

5. The way we solve our problems.

There is a significant imbalance in power. That imbalance exists between “We the People” and the people in power. The “people in power” are people from both the private and public sectors, who have reached high levels of influence and power, that affect us.

The general interest and special interest must balance to achieve the best outcome.

Unfortunately, the people in power only seem, mainly, to hear from wealthy and/or powerful people.

People who need power, rarely are good at solving problems or designing optimized systems.

As long as we are respectful and deliberative, the people in power will welcome our input. That is because the information we give them from our internal polling and voting data will make them more “sure-footed”. Because of the process that ANCS created, there is no limit on the number of citizens that can participate in developing a page, to achieve, 80% support. The elected representatives will then know what policy satisfies the public interest. We hope to have the clearest data ever on civic needs and desires.

=== How will America Needs Common Sense do this? ===
Not everything is worked out yet. The “Nuts and Bolts” details will be worked out by the entire community involved in this movement.

We have identified the major components. ANCS is likely to be a 6 step process.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>1 The first step is for someone to state a grievance that is personally affecting them or someone they know.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>2 The next step is to hear and document all the facts from all sides. These facts must be provable facts and not opinions.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>3 The next step is to publish a well-written page covering all aspects of the issue.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>4 The next step is collaborating to find a solution. A solution means devising the best possible outcome to address the grievance. The solution might involve creating, changing, or removing a regulation, policy, or law. There may be many proposals. These proposals need to be promoted for merit, by voting, and get the best aspects of the solutions merged. We have voting and polling tools that will be used where needed. All questions asked must be simple and clear. Ideally, we get a consensus on the best fix for this hypothetical grievance. We will concentrate our efforts on those issues that have the widest support. The tools for collaboration and voting are in this wiki.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>5 The next step is to petition the authorities with our results. Hopefully, they will recognize that the results of our work are beneficial and well thought out. Most importantly, we hope that the authorities will take immediate action to make it so.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>6 The final step is to publicize the impact of all reform influenced by ANCS. We will simplify the process of building factually informed support for more issues.

America Needs Common Sense Is dedicated to giving all Americans a way to directly influence the way our nation functions, and help to offset the unfairness caused by special interest groups. At its core, it is to help people find out what we all have in common, and then focus on these things to make outcomes that support the greater good.
We created an online community that gives you access to a process in which you can publish issues that are important to you. Issues can be anything like grievances, unfairness, wishes, observations, questions or fixes. Your published issues become the starting point for the community to investigate facts, and deliberate the best outcome possible. What makes our organization unique is that we will vote on issues, determine our priorities, and publish our results for the world to see.
We want members who choose to deliberate in a process dedicated to improving our nation. If that sounds lofty, it really is. Voting on issues, identifying National-State-Local priorities by ourselves, and getting action, finally is possible.
AmericaNeedsCommonSense is a nonprofit organization dedicated to re-inventing constitutional governance in America by using a computer program for citizens to directly interact with other citizens who want to represent themselves and constructively find what solution to issues we can all agree on.

We do this by using a program invented by Ward Cunningham. He called it a WIKI which became the operating system of Wikipedia, a subsidiary of Wikimedia Commons. It is the first program that allows for collaborative discourse.

Help people subjected to abuse-of-power, and that could be you.

Help make America more fair.

Share civic solutions and knowledge of civic matters with others. Vote on issues which matter.

Participate in improving America in every way possible.

Restore Freedoms

Supercharge Self-Representation

Interact with government and business.

Observe and balance those forces that affect us.

=== We have several fundamental problems that must be overcome in our modern society. ===
1. imbalance of power.

2. The way we (Collectively) process information.

3. The way we prioritize efforts.

4. How we learn from our mistakes.

5. The way we solve our problems.

There is a significant imbalance in power. That imbalance exists between “We the People” and the people in power. The “people in power” are people from both the private and public sectors.

The general interest must balance the special interests.

Unfortunately, the people in power only seem interested in hearing from other wealthy and/or powerful people.

As long as we are respectful and deliberative, the people in power will welcome our input. That is because the information we give them from our internal polling and voting data will make them more “sure-footed”. Because of the process that ANCS created, there is no limit on the number of citizens that can participate in developing a page which has 80% support.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>1 The first step is for someone stating a grievance which is personally affecting them or someone they know.

The solution might involve creating, changing, or removing a regulation, policy or law. There may be many proposals. These proposals need to be promoted for merit, by voting, and get the best aspects of the solutions merged. We have voting and polling tools that will be used where needed. All questions asked must be simple and clear. Ideally, we get consensus on the best fix for this hypothetical grievance. We will concentrate our efforts on those issues that have the widest support. The tools for collaboration and voting are in this wiki.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>5 The next step is to petition the authorities with our results. Hopefully they will recognize that the results of our work is beneficial and well thought out.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>6 The final step is to publicize the impact of all reform influenced by ANCS. We will simplify the process of building factually informed support for more issues.
WHY WE NEED AMERICANEEDSCOMMONSENSE.ORG

America is operating far below its potential. Too many Americans have hard, unhappy, frustrated lives. Too much government and too much business is not acting in our country's interest. We may call it a malaise, a failure to thrive, or not getting our fair share. We have taxation without representation. We may say some may not be carrying their weight, or paying their fair share. Many citizens are unsafe, insecure, ignored or victimized.

Whatever the problem is, America really can become a lot better in a really short time. That will only happen with these major civic changes like ANCS makes possible. We need a new way of having societal interaction, communication, and balance of power for more responsive governance. We need to constructively oversee, rethink and re-prioritize all aspects of our society that can serve us better.

Rick(Founder): Misc. Thoughts

American jails and prisons need more citizen oversight. I will provide you with a letter that a friend sent me. He asked me to forward it to his wife. He describes some of the conditions that he has to endure:

Pretty Please with honey on top, may I have some pics of our children. I haven't seen them since last years Christmas present unwrapping. I haven't seen Vaydyn with his glasses, or birthdays, or anything, and I didn't do anything to deserve that. Ive tried to remain in contact, tried to be a part of their lives, which you've chosen to deny me for some reason.I never sent any angry messages, I don't know how many times I have to profess my innocence to you, but I never sent a single angry message or letter. Ive done all I can to cope with you abandoning me without any just cause, supposedly cuz I'm not worth you wasting your life for, despite you repeatedly assuring me you all loved me to the moon and back, always will be there for me, and will write me. Seems the only time you want to write is to tell me off, for something I have no control over. My day to day is always different, like today, I had 8:20am-9:20am small yard, which has 4 phones for 50 guys, 1 for bloods, 1 for GDs, 1 for Vicelords, and 1 for Muslims. When 50 guys are trying to call whoever for 15mins, I don't get a phone in the hour we're out. Then we have 6:20-7:20pm dayroom, which has 2 phones for A-side, and 2 for B-side, again, gang controlled, where same ones ALWAYS get on phone, while others who are white and not affiliated (10% or less) don't get on. There is 1 j-pay on each side, where, again, 25 guys want to plug up, and so brothers get all the time, cuz theyre selfish and don't care about guys like me. Then we had 8:40-9:40pm Honor yard (small yard again) where those who are 6mos ticket free get an extra yard. Despite only about 20 guys being out there, I rarely get on the phone, like tonite, where I got 7mins at the end of yard AFTER all others went, some even got 2or3 calls. I have Big Yard tomorrow from 9:30-10:30am where I sometimes get a phone cuz 8 of the 30 phones are for nonaffiliated, but theres 100 guys, most who are gang members and try to grab the neutron phones cuz then they can 'ride' it, when their gang members won't let them ride theirs. IF my cell gets popped 1st, which is very rare, I may be able to walk fast enuff to get 1 of those 8 phones, and saddened when no one Id love to talk to answers. Next is 2:30-3:30pm either small yard or dayroom, and then 7:30-8:30pm which ever we don't have earlier. The next day is 8:20am dayroom, 6:20-7:20pm small yard, and 8:40-9:40pm honor dayroom, again, same as before, where I rarely get a phone or jpay. I can sometimes buy a phone for $5 for 5mins, and can pay someone $3 to plug up my j-pay, but I can't afford to do that regularly. Ive barely talked to ANYONE in past yr, but got to at least tell my dad I loved him the day before he died, and have talked to Russ twice when he was in hospital, and once since his release. I talked to my brother Randy when my dad died, cuz they made a special arrangement for me. Ive talked to Rick the most, about a dozen times, when I can't reach you or kids. Ive called you 1st MOST times, hoping today may be the day you realize you still love me, and may want to make my year by talking to me. Ive cried so many tears for you, for Vaydyn, for Aydriana, cuz I miss you so much it hurts. I don't know what to say to convince you how much I love you all, or to get you to see you're torturing me for no good reason. Maybe my suffering eases yours, I don't know, but it hurts me so much to have you ignore me, refuse to write except when angry, and deny me a call with kids. Even IF I couldve called Vaydyn back when he accidently hung up, the phone system is set up to force ppl to wait 15mims between calls, to keep ppl from riding phones. Doesn't werk cuz the gangbangers sell their pins to their boys, and can bypass the wait period. I'm not as fortunate. I'm a small fish in a very dangerous pond, and am living a FAR worse existence then Jacob did, so please quit trying to compare his experience with mine. He was Level 1, out all day, I'm locked up most the day, and when I'm out, its for an hr at a time, with 50 or 100 others who think theyre more important than me. My wife and kids don't matter to them, never will. I'm just trying to avoid getting in trouble, while I wait o be moved to level2, which I'm ONLY still here allegedly due to 'Bed Space' is what it says on my reclassification. I have 10pts, which is level2, but can't ride out. Ive had 1 ticket in the year Ive been here, for not being on my bunk at count time, something they didnt announce, so impossible for me to know. I didn't get any warnings, or any counseling, or even a minor ticket (class 3) they went for the jugular and wrote highest ticket possible, because, just like in quarantine, the COs are afraid of the blacks who group up right away and have each others backs, and so they prey on the whites who have no backup. My 5tickets in quarantine were the weakest crap imaginable, yet maximized to highest possible level. I haven't done anything wrong, been on my best behavior, and had 2 incidents that staff maximized to punish me for nothing. A mask someone else drew on, and a toilet paper cardboard in door jam to quiet the slamming of the door. This is why I'm in level 4, and can't get out. This is why I'm suffering the worst possible sentence imaginable, and then compounded by your refusal to talk to me, refusal to let me tlk to kids for 6mos, and refusal to even send me a pic of my son wearing glasses, or my daughter's smiling face on her birthday. Or Vaydyns. Or ANYTHING like their costumes, or summertime, or 1st day of school. I don't deserve your cruelty. Ive been the best man you've ever known, and made a life for us you only could've dreamed of. Life has pitfalls, and when it was good, you were happy, and loved it. Kota dying ended your happiness, and then the bullshit with bill Witt and that fkn prosecutor, and unjust judges have ruined what we had. I wish you would talk to me. I'll always love you and kids XOXOXO 4ev
=Prescriptions=
Mexico has far fewer restrictions on drugs including Benzodiazepeins. When we vacationed in a resort by the Gulf-of-Mexico 20 years ago, anyone could go to a pharmacy, and talk to the pharmacist who helped advise you regarding what you did and did not need. Simple, Easy, Quick and Cheap.
==For Previous Illness==
Is it reasonable for anyone who is familiar with a prescription drug, and develops the same symptoms, to be able to renew a script without a doctor, or at least be able to get another script with a phone call to the Doctors office for a minimal charge?
==Prescription Mandate==
Doctors routinely require new office visits to extend Prescriptions. Is this fair of them to do so? Is this practice just so Doctors can increase billings or does it serve a greater-good purpose that we agree with? I am comfortable with my researching abilities and my own diagnoses. Unfortunately, until I can use labs directly, I have no choice but to see a doctor if my symptoms have multiple causes.
=Medications=
What if we have older medicine that was prescribed that we no longer need?
==Expiration Date==
Federal Law requires all medicines to be tested for loss-of-potency and toxicity for a period of 2 years. Many substances have a usable life much longer that 2 years. I laughed when I saw a container of salt having an expiration date.
===Recycling===
Suppose that it is legal to give or sell excess or no-longer-needed pills to the poor, or group homes. How do we protect the parties?
===Giving Party===
Document the transaction and obtain the receiving party.
===Receiving Party===
Obtain a certificate that the contents have not been adulterated, and receive assurances that the contents worked as intended.
=Taking guns off the streets=
Guns should be taken from people who have mental health issues. Media propaganda and misinformation can radicalize people. Any people that develop radical beliefs should be disarmed until they become realistic.
==Reasons for this Policy==
===Gun Manufacturers===
Does taking guns and destroying guns increase new gun sales
===Buyers===
Does taking guns and destroying guns increase new gun prices

My thoughts from reading information relating to Cook County, IL, are related to wondering if the entire system will benefit from making some really simple changes. This idea is not new, so here it goes.
Police should never have direct contact with the prosecutor's office ex-parte. The police should be required to always create field notes and other documentation in real-time, to a neutral repository, to be acted upon simultaneously by prosecutors and public defenders. Police and all officers of the court should loose immunity for any misrepresentation, exaggeration, or other abuse of power. Police and other witnesses should never be coached, led, or directed by either party. There should never be a culture for winning or losing, rather it should be a universal culture intended to find the best outcome. the best outcome should always be prevention first, then restorative justice. It is ridiculous to think that Public Safety has become a jobs program. It is also ridiculous to think that Public Safety is making segments of society less safe. Public Safety should not be a power trip for legislators, Judges, Prosecutors, or Jailers. Public safety governance should be reserved exclusively to prevent violence to people and their property. Public Safety should be promoted in the least expensive way. It is ridiculous to think that throwing convicted individuals into prison where the jailers create an environment that reinforces hatred, is free of compassion or caring, and then releasing prisoners into society will keep us safe.
INTRODUCTION

PUBLIC SAFETY
Cook County provides services for the protection of persons and property through the provision of a court system, a jail
system, a police force, prosecution, and public defense. The County operates the second largest unified court system in the
United States (which hears civil, criminal, and administrative cases), the second largest prosecutor’s office in the nation
(which is responsible for the prosecution of all misdemeanor and felony crimes committed in the County), and one of the
largest criminal defense firms in the Country with over 500 attorneys charged with representing every type of criminal offense
and child protection violation.

The preceding is written by Toni Preckwinkle, the county president.

I am curious why she tells us how many public defenders we have, but not how many prosecutors we have.
From the Chicago Reporter:

"Duties of the Cook County State’s Attorney

The Cook County State’s Attorney oversees one of the largest prosecutor offices in the nation, second only to Los Angeles County. It employs more than 1,500 personnel, including almost 900 attorneys, and has a broad scope of responsibility, including:"

AmericaNeedsCommonSense.org (ANCS) will become a network for promoting self-representation. We must have power in balance to achieve fairness. Diversity is essential. We need thinkers, organizers, legislators, problem solvers.

That will only happen with these major civic changes. We need a new way of having societal interaction, communication, and balance of power. We need to constructively oversee, rethink and re-prioritize all aspects of our society that do not serve us well.

We need to start voting on issues. We need to vote on issues because voting for candidates is just not working as intended.

=== America Needs Common Sense (ANCS) is dedicated to all Americans who want to: ===
Get our Country back.
Personally influence policy to make things better.

Get the facts straight on issues.
Help people subjected to abuse-of-power get justice.
Help make America more fair.

Share civic solutions and knowledge of civic matters with others. Vote on issues that matter.

Participate in improving America in every way possible.
Restore our Freedoms

Supercharge our self-Representation

Interact with government and business.

Observe and balance those that control us

=== We have several fundamental problems that must be overcome in our modern society. ===
The first is balance of power.

The second is the way we (Collectively) process information.

The third is the way we prioritize efforts.

The fourth is how we learn from our mistakes.

The fifth is the way we solve our problems.

The elected officers will then be able to identify which lobbying effort is not acting in the public interest. We hope to have the clearest data ever on civic needs and desires.

=== How will America Needs Common Sense do this? ===
Not everything is worked out yet. The “Nuts and Bolts” details will be worked out by the community involved in this movement.

We have identified the major components. ANCS is likely to be a 6 step process.

<nowiki>#</nowiki>1 The first step is for someone stating a grievance which is personally affecting them or someone they know.

The solution might involve creating, changing, or removing a regulation, a policy or a law. There may be many proposals. These proposals need to be promoted for merit and get the best aspects of the solutions merged.

How China broke The Worlds' Recycling system -- This documentary is neither vetted nor does it talk about the added profit to waste management generates from running twice as many trucks as it would if all the garbage was collected by the same truck. Is the recycling industry based on a false premise? I assume that garbage pickup costs can be reduced by nearly half when the entire waste stream is picked up by one truck
I think that we need a completely independent nonprofit organization that has congressional charter with authority over gun ownership in the United States of America. This 501(C)3 will acquire and keep a complete record of gun ownership, and this database will be inaccessible to any government authority. It will also have the authority to demand all court and police records of violent people, and violent gun owners, and all records of gun manufacturers, dealers, and private sellers. The reason is that it will be empowered to deal with people that are dangerous or potentially dangerous and also have a gun or should not get a gun. There are people that should not have a gun, and they are a threat to the rest of us. I know that even some police should not have a gun, and certainly there should be zero tolerance regarding people that have substance abuse issues, carrying a gun, as well as people with violent mental health issues carrying a gun. This proposed entity should have the authority to investigate allegations from people reporting dangerous individuals. This organization should have resources available regarding addiction treatment, mental health therapy, and other community resources that help the individual become healthy, productive, and no longer be a threat to others. How should this organization be funded? How would it receive authority to operate in all states? What methods short of seizure can be employed to secure weapons from people that should not have them?
It is reasonable to assume that copying costs might be $0.25 per page, or that electronic records should be free.
My good friends Daniel and Dru moved to a new doctor. They wanted to take their records with. They were told that it costs $50 each for the records.

From Wikipedia:

=== Recognized patients' rights ===
The Charter of Patients' Rights lists seventeen rights that patients are entitled to:

* '''Right to information''': Every patient has the right to know what is the illness that they are suffering, its causes, the status of the diagnosis (provisional or confirmed), expected costs of treatment. Furthermore, service providers should communicate this in a manner that is understandable for the patient.
* '''Right to records and reports:''' The patient has the right to access his/her medical records and investigation reports. Service providers should make these available upon the patients' payment of any photocopy fees as applicable.
* '''Right to emergency care:''' Public and private hospitals have an obligation to provide emergency medical care regardless of the patients' capacity to pay for the services.
* '''Right to informed consent:''' Patients have the right to be asked for their informed consent before submitting to potentially hazardous treatment. Physicians should clearly explain the risks from receiving the treatment and only administer the treatment after getting explicit written consent from the patient.
* '''Right to confidentiality, human dignity and privacy:''' Doctors should observe strict confidentiality of a patient's condition, with the only exception of potential threats to public health. In case of a physical inspection by a male doctor on a female patient, the latter has the right to have a female person present throughout the procedure. Hospitals also have an obligation to secure patient information from any external threats.
* '''Right to second opinion:''' Patients are entitled to seek a second opinion and hospitals should facilitate any information or records that the patient requires to do so.
* '''Right to transparency in rates, and care according to prescribed rates wherever relevant:''' Hospitals should display the rates that they charge in a visible manner and patients should receive an itemized bill when payment is required. Essential medicines, devices and implants should comply with rates established by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).
* '''Right to non-discrimination:''' Service providers cannot deny treatment on the basis of gender, caste, religion, age, sexual orientation or social origins. Additionally, it is against the Charter to deny treatment on the basis of a patients' health condition, including HIV status.
* '''Right to safety and quality care according to standards:''' Hospitals must ensure a hygienic and sanitized environment to provide their services.
* '''Right to choose alternative treatment options if available:''' Patients have the right to consider treatment alternatives and even refuse treatment.
* '''Right to choose source for obtaining medicines or tests:''' Any registered pharmacy and laboratory is eligible to provide patients with goods and services they require.
* '''Right to proper referral and transfer, which is free from perverse commercial influences:''' In case of transfers or referrals, the patient has the right to an explanation that justifies the transfer, as well as confirmation from the hospital receiving the patient about their acceptance of the transfer.
* '''Right to protection for patients involved in clinical trials:''' Clinical trials should comply with all the standards and protocols under the Directorate General of Health Services.
* '''Right to protection of participants involved in biomedical and health research:''' Studies involving patients should follow the National Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical and Health Research Involving Human Participants.
* '''Right to take discharge of patient, or receive body of deceased from hospital:''' Patients have the right to be discharged and may not be detained at a health service provider facility because of procedural reasons such as payment disputes.
* '''Right to Patient Education:''' In addition to information about their condition, patients have the right to know about public health services such as insurance schemes and charitable hospitals.
* '''Right to be heard and seek redressal:''' feedback and comments to their health service providers and file complaints as required. They additionally have the right to redressal in cases where any of their rights are violated.

=== Bill of 2001 ===
A rally for the patients' bill of rights proposed in 2001, with Bill Clinton, Joe Hoeffel, Ron Klink, Ed Rendell, and Chaka Fattah

The United States Congress considered a bill designed to safeguard patients' rights in 2001. The "Bipartisan Patient Protection Act" (S.1052), sponsored by Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain, contained new rules for what health maintenance organizations had to cover and granted new rights for patients to sue in state or federal courts, if they are denied needed care.

The House of Representatives and Senate passed differing versions of the proposed law. Although both bills would have provided patients key rights, such as prompt access to emergency care and medical specialists, only the Senate-passed measure would provide patients with adequate means to enforce their rights. The Senate's proposal would have conferred a broad array of rights on patients. It would have ensured that patients with health care plans had the right to:

* have their medical decisions made by a doctor;
* see a medical specialist;
* go to the closest emergency room;

The bill was passed by the US Senate by a vote of 59–36 in 2001, it was then amended by the House of Representatives and returned to the Senate. Reportedly, president Bush threatened to veto the bill if it included the Senate's provision to allow patients to sue managed care organizations in the state and federal courts.

=== Industry resistance ===
Wendell Potter, former senior executive at Cigna-turned-whistleblower, has written that the insurance industry worked to kill "any reform that might interfere with insurers' ability to increase profits" by engaging in extensive and well-funded anti-reform campaigns. The industry, he says, "goes to great lengths to keep its involvement in these campaigns hidden from public view," including the use of "front groups".

Voting on issues and identifying national priorities ourselves finally is possible.
Allow direct access to testing and medicine!

I know a immigrant chemist, who back in 1994 opened a lab in the south side of Chicago. He helped thousands of poor people who could not afford a doctor. He did cultures to determine infections, and did blood tests, and provided medicine. He was charged with practicing medicine and convicted of medicare fraud for $300,000. His lab was shut down. He never pretended to be a doctor. But doctors sent patients to him for testing. I met him at a Ross Perot rally.

A great friend of mine, cynically says, "The primary job of a doctor is to stand in the way of your healthcare until they get paid". I really appreciate the knowledge that doctors have, when I need help, and I get care at the V.A. I feel that we should have the right to medication, without an office visit, particularly if I had the condition before.
